MUZAFFARPUR: An ADM-rank officer Manoj Kumar Ram was arrested on charges of demanding extortion from two judicial officers posted at the civil court here. The official was later produced before the court which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.
The official was accused of allegedly demanding Rs10 lakh as extortion from an additional district and sessions judge Rakesh Kumar Malviya about a week ago through a letter sent to his office by post.

DSP (Town) Naresh Paswan said Ram was arrested from Sahbajpur under the Ahiyapur PS area of the district on the basis of evidence. "The technical cell of the district police found that the cell phone number mentioned in the extortion letter was found in Ram's possession, who was earlier posted as circle officer in Mushahari block," the DSP added.
A similar letter was earlier sent to another judicial officer in March last year. He was threatened with dire consequences for his failure to pay Rs.5 lakh . "In both the letters, the cellphone number was the same," the DSP said
